- NAME: Skyfrost
- AGE: Nine moons old
- GENDER: She-cat
- DESCRIPTION:
She's that jerk you wanna punch but you can't 'cause she's some high-powered jerk. You know the type. And she's a cat. Ta-da, voila, whoop-dee-doo, hurray. -_-
- APPEARANCE:
White with black patches, pale yellow eyes and of the female variety. Averagely average for an apprentice, yessir.
Now stop staring at the appearance slot and look at the personality instead.
- PERSONALITY:
"Of all the irresponsible, immature, stubborn, arrogant mouse-brains why did I get stuck with you?!"
You may have heard those words on a fine afternoon being shouted from somewhere inside the medicine cat den a moon or so ago. If you have, then you would know that it was unmistakably the outraged shouting of the honorable medicine cat, Tigerpelt, to his apprentice, Skypaw. Since then, their bickering isn't around these days, due to Tigerpelt departing to StarClan during leaf-bare. One thing that does remain is Skyfrost's personality. With too little patience to sit still and not enough care to work, Skyfrost's personality hasn't changed except for becoming more extreme in certain aspects. As fiery as ever, Skyfrost has become a little more bitter under the stress. Where you used to be greeted by warmth from an elderly medicine cat you're now faced with a paralyzing glare from a young she-cat that obviously does not want you there.
"Shut up and pay attention, bee-brain, you're either going to learn these herbs or I'll suffocate you with them, you got it?"
Skyfrost's impatience and short attention span is legendary, or it would be, if anyone outside of ThunderClan knew who she was. This makes training her difficult, which was what Dappledheart used her creativity to overcome and what Tigerpelt failed to get around.
"Hey! What did I say about medicine cats don't lose their temper? Now you calm down before I beat you with a stick, fluffball!"
If there ever was a hot-headed cat, it would be Skyfrost.
Good traits:
Bad traits:
Fears: Unable to help and heal ThunderClan due to her lack of experience, knowledge, and training
Biggest Desire: To be warrior again, but since this is very unlikely, Skyfrost would probably like to have the means to actually be a good medicine cat for her Clan... as much as she hates the position, she cares enough to never leave ThunderClan without a medicine cat.
Likes: Battle training Eating Violence Squirrels Superiority over others
Hates: Mouse-brains (ignoring she might be one) Herbs Responsibility Work Hunting
One thing I hate about being medicine cat is... ohmystarclan EVERYTHING. All the work, the whining cats, the expectations, the responsibility. AND THE HERBS. I hate them. So much. (Why can't you organize yourself?)
One thing I love about medicine cat is... how everybody is required to show me respect. It rocks, even if I don't get it half the time from some cats. Nobody dares disrespects the medicine cat, oh yeah! (Because they know who is going to be saving their sorry tails if they get wounded in battle.)
- HISTORY:
Expectations. Do they define us? Do the expectations of others matter, while told the expectations of ourselves is what truly is the definition of our being? Who are we?
A queen, looking upon her kit for the first time, wonders who it will grow up to be. All mothers desire the best for their kits; nursing kits is the time for fantasies and dreams of futures. Some may wish for deputyship and becoming leader later on, good hunting skills, or perhaps some just hope for a long, fulfilling life and yes, grandkits! But realistically, there is no knowing of who this little stranger to the world is. The queen just knows she loves the kit and that's that. As her tongue draws over the patches of black and white in a sleepy, steady rhythm she contentedly settles for who this kit is right now: Skykit. Her absolutely wonderful little she-kit.
There was no tom around to rejoice with her in the beginning of this new life, but that was fine. She was comfortable with it being just her and her kit, not having to rely on a fathering figure. She and she alone watched as Skykit grew, from the opening of her blue eyes to the day they began to lighten into a pale yellow. When Skykit took her first taste of meat was another event to be celebrated, but her mother realized an ache taking root in her heart. These little moments in these few moons were flying by so fast. Soon her kit would become an apprentice, independent of her mother. She wished, as all mothers might in their life, that she could just relive these days over and over again. To cherish this time as much as she could before it became a fleeting memory.
Sure enough, the day came when the queen looked on with a heartbreaking mixture of sorrow and pride as her kit received the name of an apprentice. She shouldered her way through the cheering crowd of cats that were welcoming the new she-cat training to be a warrior. They exchanged words, Skypaw's mother laughing at her daughter's insistence to call her by her new name. Bittersweet memories draped her mother's heart as she finally let her kit go, knowing it was expected she move from the nursery back to her nest in the warriors' den now. Skypaw only moved across the ThunderClan camp to the apprentices' den, but to her mother, she might as well have moved to an entirely different territory.
This is the point in the story when the story becomes Skypaw's and her's alone. Apprenticed to a mentor named Dappledheart, a generously kind and patient warrior, Skypaw took on her training proudly. It was no secret that Skypaw was a fiery and sharp-tongued she-cat, and her mentor's personality balanced out her own. Skypaw had dreams of grandeur and glory, as most apprentices do. This ambition was possibly the only thing that kept her progressing in her training, even though it was slow and hard. Skypaw was a stubborn apprentice, rebelling against most of her mentor's polite instruction and request. Dappledheart was a wise warrior, however, and saw potential in Skypaw's fierce fighting-spirit. She found a way to successfully encourage that spirit and determination, actually finding a way to teach her seemingly impossible pupil. Together they spent the whole first moon of Skypaw's training practicing and learning the basics. While other mentors might see Skypaw's training as disappointingly slow due to the repetition and simplicity of the few skills she was developing, Dappledheart saw it as a breakthrough. Skyfrost showed promise for battle training, for her eagerness in that field kept it moving along smoothly. Hunting and other practices proved more of a challenge, since she had little patience or attention for them. Dappledheart's dedication and wisdom was perfect for Skypaw's requirements for training.
In the midst of these things, the ThunderClan medicine cat had been watching the young apprentice closely. Tigerpelt was an aging tom who had served as ThunderClan's medicine cat for many faithful seasons. Naturally he would have retired as an elder moons ago, but the lack of a medicine cat apprentice had kept him from making such a decision. As some of the senior warriors can recall from their oldest memories, Tigerpelt did have an apprentice once: a frail, mute beauty by the name of Rosepaw. A calico runt, she had a weak immune system and a delicate body. She could never be a regular apprentice, and most of the time had to be under the watchful eye of the medicine cat. During this time Tigerpelt and Rosepaw had grown especially close together, the tom practically regarding the young she-cat like the daughter he was forbidden to have. When Rosepaw officially became his apprentice, she was efficient and quick at what she did until an unfortunate border skirmish with ShadowClan came about. Tigerpelt had discovered some herbs growing near the Thunderpath that ShadowClan shared with ThunderClan. Rosepaw, innocent but naive as she was, also noticed some more herbs growing on the ShadowClan side of the Thunderpath. While Tigerpelt had his back turned, she set out to "help" and gather the herbs on the other side as well. Two naive ShadowClan apprentices, looking for a chance to teach ThunderClan cats a lesson, attacked before getting a chance to register who Rosepaw was. Her body was too weak to withstand such blows and she crumbled like a leaf before their paws. Tigerpelt turned around in time to see Rosepaw painfully trying to drag herself over the Thunderpath back to her mentor and Clan. The Thunderpath vibrated beneath her, and Tigerpelt watched in paralyzed horror as the monster ended her suffering eternally.
He had never accepted another apprentice after that, until now. Tigerpelt announced to the Clan that he had received a sign from StarClan that Skypaw was to be medicine cat apprentice. It is an impossible thing to measure shock in mouse-lengths or fox-lengths, so it is indescribable of the surprise Skypaw received that day. She spent time arguing with the medicine cat, pleading with her mentor, and examining the uncertainty of her Clanmates in such a preposterous decision on StarClan's behalf. Yet no one dares to defy the will of StarClan, not even the sharp-tongued Skypaw. Reluctantly she left her mentor, Dappledheart, to train as medicine cat apprentice under Tigerpelt.
Skypaw grudgingly and resentfully went through training session after training session with a cat who, unfortunately, did not have the patience Dappledheart did. Skypaw longed to be a regular apprentice, and often daydreamed during the times she was supposed to be memorizing herbs or certain remedies to illness and wounds. At any given moment Tigerpelt and Skypaw could be heard or seen tearing away at each other with harsh words. Skypaw made it clear she hated this position of medicine cat apprentice, while Tigerpelt insisted she do it anyway.
For two months Skypaw learned little but was lectured a lot, turning out to be a poor medicine cat apprentice. She despised herbs and the mystical voodoo of StarClan, preferring just to leave StarClan's mysteries as their own and not meddle in it too greatly. Then during the worst leaf-bare the Clans had probably ever known, Tigerpelt passed away suddenly and swiftly. To the worry and panic of ThunderClan, Skypaw's training was left incomplete and unfinished. According to tradition, medicine cat apprentices take on the role of medicine cat should they pass away, even though nothing like this had ever happened before. Under this sudden new shift of responsibility which fell to her, Skypaw became the youngest full medicine cat the Clans had probably ever seen. During the half-moon, she trekked to the Moonstone to receive her full medicine cat name under the watch of StarClan, the ceremony courtesy of a medicine cat from another Clan.
Skyfrost was now the nine-moon-old medicine cat of ThunderClan, with very little memory of the herbs she was taught and absolutely no idea what to do without the guidance of a proper mentor.
