Her ears pricked as she could hear the distant bustle of the clan's constant movements. There were the howls of laughter, the cries of anger and the constant croaks of the elders. Eyes closed, she heaved a sigh. A gentle breeze swept into the apprentice’s den, carrying along with crazy mixtures of scents from everywhere. She could recognise the scent of the food pile, where dead carcasses laid awaiting, a familiar scent of the forest’s damp air and the scents of cats of Thunderclan. Their scents mixed together made her nose twitched and she flared.
The den was almost empty with the exception of a few other apprentices dozing about; tired from their harsh training with their fellow mentors. The thought of mentors made her remember of Badgerclaw.
Badgerclaw.
I’ve heard he is a strict mentor. He’s impatient too… why oh why do I get these scary cats as mentors… her heart whispered. Their training sessions was due soon. And for once in her life, she was not ready for something as big as this. Thoughts of her possibly nightmarish training were beginning to disturb her. Letting out a huff, she peeled her eyelids open, as she stared right back at the bright world. The sudden change of light intensity within the walls of her eyelids and the surroundings caused her to shut them back again. She tried again. Still adjusting to the light, she gathered her strength and came to a stand. A scowl erupted from her throat as she staggered to her left. She soon regains control. Lowering her head as she stretched out her front legs, her claws flexed as she bared her teeth. What a good stretch, she spoke in her head. Turning to face the entrance to the dark, dim den, she took her first steps after her long nap and soon, she emerged.

never in the young toms life had he been so flipping exhausted. every movement seemed to take every ounce of will and strength he had left in his small body. because of this, he hadn't moved since dawn. where was he? seated in front of the herbs that were to become his heart, and soul. he had slept absolutely horrendously the night before, his sleep ravaged by dreams of death, and loss; of his mother and of blood. the stories he was told of things that happened recently that he was too young to remember or even begin to comprehend. the tom cat was emotionally and physically exhausted in every definition of the word. if only he could go back to sleep in his nice warm nest ...
"ow!" a piercing yowl split through the den and the tom opened his eyes to find himself head first in the pile of tansy leaves. their strong smell engulfed his senses and he started sputtering and coughing, trying to get to his feet. unsheathing his claws he flopped around for a bit before gaining his footing and letting out a sneeze that sent the dried tansy leaves fluttering. eyes watering and disoriented, emberpaw turned away from the plants and towards the light of camp. stumbling towards the entrance, he sneezed again and his eyes continued to water. dipping his head, he brushed off his maw with his forepaw and shook his head. getting control over himself again, he sneezed once more, and then walked out into the camp.
emberpaw ran through what happened. he was looking at he herbs, studying them, breathing them, living them, and then ... what? the tom cat couldn't remember. emberpaw's brow furrowed and his frustration level spiked. why couldn't he remember? he couldn't of been so tired that he had just fallen asleep in the middle of sorting herbs, it was almost impossible in his mind. snorting, he looked around camp and noticed an apprentice leaving the apprentice den. he cocked his eyebrow. a little late, eh? the thought sparked in his mind, and he smirked. maybe everyone had had a rough night and he wasn't the only one tortured with nightmares lately.
"hey! hey amberpaw!" he chirped happily, as he trotted over to her. on his way, he sneezed again and to his dismay, he could still smell the strong stench of tansy on his face. "you look tired? did you sleep alright?" emberpaw spoke fast, hoping she wouldn't notice the smell of tansy, or that he looked particularly rough this morning. he smiled at her sweetly, his soft green eyes sparkling.

Her stomach grumbled as the scent of food grew stronger the moment she poked her nose out into the sunlight. Her mouth was beginning to water. Great Starclan, how long have I not ate? she spoke in her mind. Shaking her head, she began to take the first few paw steps towards her fresh pile.
A distant cry. Ears perked, she stopped in her tracks. Was someone calling her? Turning to face the presumably direction of the voice, she came to meet a fellow apprentice, Emberpaw. The clan's medicine cat apprentice. She grew strangely amused as she noticed him hobbling a few steps after every sneeze. A smile crept along her muzzle. Her eyes grew soft at the sight of the adorable cat. Her question caught her off guard. I looked tired? Wow what did the nap turn me into! Realizing of the situation, she lowered her back and sat down neatly on the sandy earth. A purr aroused, "I was taking a nap. It didn't do me any good, did it?" she meowed in amusement. Turning to have a closer look at the young apprentice, ... he was not looking very good himself. Her fluffed fur soften as it laid close to her skin once again. The distant cries of young kits were louder than they originally were back in the den. Flash-backs of her previous sisters invaded her memories. Her heart tugged. In the blink of an eye, she shoved them back to the far back of her mind. She wishes not to think of them any longer. Not when she was still partly grieving for them. Not yet. her heart whispered.
Breaking off her chain of thoughts, she resumed to the tom.
"You don't look very much lively yourself Emberpaw, is everything alright?" she qyestioned, concerned.

he could feel another one coming. his eyes began to tingle and water, and his nose was irritated. emberpat felt his chest tighten and his eyes squint at the up coming sneeze. the face that was so calm only moments ago, was twisting up into the tell tale sneeze face. he tried to stop it, he held his breath, as he looked at amberpaw through his squinting, watering green eyes. oh no, oh no.. he thought to himself, and just as she went to open her mouth to speak to him, he let out a hell of a sneeze. the sneeze came out of him with such force that he had to brace himself by unsheathing his claws and digging into the earth for dear life. upon the sneeze all the hair on his body stood up and he looked like a small puff ball of orange tabby fur.
"well, you look fine, just exhausted amberpaw!" he responded to her once he had got himself under control. his tail was still puffed out, like a foxes, but that was only a minor detail. he had just made a fool of himself in front of another apprentice and starclan knows how many others were watching his little spectacle. "can't of been easy to nap with those noisy kits, eh?" he said light heartedly, pleased by that fact that they were able to hear the mewls after such a harsh leaf-bare. emberpaw wasn't very old, merely nine moons old, but even he was old enough to know that leaf-bare was dangerous for kits. feeling the fur on his tail come to rest, he sat down in the ground and studied the she-cat. she did look particularly exhausted today. a small prickle of worry balled in the pit of his stomach. he smiled at her question however,
"i didn't sleep very well last night at all, i couldn't get comfortable." he shrugged with a light sigh. the corner of his mouth turned down slightly as he continued. "and i wound up in the pile of tansy this morning. man, does that stuff stink!" he giggled happily. thinking about it now, it was pretty funny, and he scolded himself silently for getting frustrated at himself for an accident.

It was not a moment too soon when another huge sneeze erupted from his small body. With fur all standing on their ends, he appeared puffed, round and dizzy? Maybe dizzy from all the sneezing, that is. She flinched at his sneeze as her ears folded back acutely. The moment he had himself gathered together again, her bristled hair on the scruff of her neck relaxed, her tensed muscles eased. She never knew anyone could sneeze that much. The last thing she wants is for the little apprentice to fall ill, out of her duties. The thought of it made her feel uneasy. Emberpaw wouldn't want that either...
"can't of been easy to nap with those noisy kits, eh?"
Her eyes trailed to nursery at the thought of the question. A couple of small furry balls were launching at themselves lightly, with tiny claws unsheathed. A flame of happiness and mischief burned in their large marble-like eyes. With their tiny fangs bared, she let out a low rumble, feeling amused. So many memories. Eyes shifting back to her fellow Thunderclanner, she replied, "Not... not really. They're the loud bunch. I keep on hearing a similar mini plots in their conversations! I can still remember the lines in my head till today." She chuckled.
"i didn't sleep very well last night at all, i couldn't get comfortable." Her head tilted acutely, having not expected such a reason at all. Resuming back to her posture, she empathized, "Ah...I hope the den wasn't too cold or anything. I mean, I would probably know causes for unsatisfying sleep...!" Aside from that, she thought a Medicine Cat's den smells sort of nice.. with the herbs and everything else. It smells so earthly. She likes it.
"and i wound up in the pile of tansy this morning. man, does that stuff stink!" Upon hearing the different tone in his voice, her eyes enlarged and she let out a cackle of laughter. Oh boy, is this tom peculiar! Her once heavy heart grew lighter as her eyes cleared up. She was open to this fruitful and interesting conversation with Emberpaw. Rarely does she gets a chance to speak to him. This was certainly a lucky day for her!

the young tom wasn’t sure of the she-cats sense of humour, or what she was like at all. she was mighty pretty though, in an odd way. emberpaw let his mind wander in a land of fantasy for a moment, of the life of a warrior, before he tugged his runaway thoughts back in. he shouldn’t be thinking that way, even in a relaxed and non-serious manner. it would be a disgrace against starclan and against his clan. the thought made him want to shudder. no, he knew he had chosen the right path for him.
emberpaw’s smile faltered as he seen a flicker of unease flash across her face, if only for a second. he gazed at her, his eyebrow slightly cocked at the change, but he let it go as her light green eyes travelled away from him. curious, he looked in the same direction she was and he felt himself smile again. but he didn’t keep his eyes there. he had never known what it was like to play as a kit, and if he did, he was too young to remember it happening. emberpaw sat there with his eyes on the ground, a sad smile on his face, but he perked up when she spoke to him.
“kits come up with the craziest ideas, everytime I’m in there I hear them planning to take over the whole lake and run out all the two-legs on top of that!” he tried to deliver the line with a straight face, to add comedic affect, but he couldn’t do it, he felt the smile erupt on his face. he averted his gaze, but let his ears flick in her direction. emperpaw shrugged his shoulders in response to her next comment, not wanting to expand on why he couldn’t sleep, he didn’t feel like confessing the nightmares he had been having lately. they made him feel weak, weaker than he usually did. emberpaw started to withdraw into himself, the noises of the camp becoming blurred and one.
however, when amberpaw started to laugh, a whole hearted laugh, emberpaw came back down to earth and returned his gaze to her. she looked so unbelievably happy right now , with a large smile on her face and looking calm. emberpaw flicked his tail back and forth, trying to think of something else witty to say, but he was at a loss for words. whiskers twisting, he let out an odd noise of exasperation. “hey amberpaw, what’s it like being trained as a warrior?” he asked, in all seriousness. he had been so busy lately he hadn’t had a chance to talk to any of the other apprentice about their warrior path.

Her gaze remained on the small Tom as a spark of amusement ignited in her eyes. His small body frame, followed by the light of happiness in his eyes gave her the reason to smile. She purred once again and replied, "Well, kits will be kits. Their minds are all over the place! But it's endearing, that's for one." She mused. Her paws shifted once again as she could feel them began to ache under her weight. She tilted her head up, as she looked up into the serene, indigo blue sky. The clouds were moving at their own pace again; slow and calm. Heaving in a deep breath, she returned her gaze to him.
“hey amberpaw, what’s it like being trained as a warrior?"
She cocked her head upon hearing the question. She grew curious on why would such question be raised but she nodded in reply with respect to it. Being trained to be a warrior? Sure, it would tiring, frustrating, painful and having disappointments along the way. She would scowl, hiss and storm around the camp when times were rough with her training. What more with a stringent and short-tempered mentor like Badgerclaw. Still, she remembers how proud he would be towards her when she has done a wonderful job during practice. Not to forget, to be able to complete a challenge raised by him well.
She enjoyed it.
A frown appeared on her face as she began, "It was tiring, frustrating and disappointing. Badgerclaw always seemed like he's attacked by a horde of flees or something, and I always feel like I am the flee!!" Her lips curled back as she drew a light snarl. Whiskers pulled back, she narrowed her eyes, as short images of her mentor's previous scoldings ran amok in her mind.
